Welcome New Cadets! JOIN US FOR NEW CADET ORIENTATION (NCO) AUG 8-12

June 20, 2022 / Events

June 20, 2022

Dear Prospective Cadet and Parents,

On behalf of my fellow instructor, Petty Officer Herman Young,  I am writing to congratulate you on your enrollment in the Patriot NJROTC program for the  upcoming school year, and invite you to participate in our New Cadet Orientation (NCO) program taking place during the  week of 8 -12 August.

NCO is a fantastic event to meet fellow cadets and learn about the organization and many opportunities available in our program.  This week-long event is a series of classes and activities exposing new cadets to our uniforms, physical fitness program and competitive teams.  Led by our cadet staff of senior leaders, it is a fantastic head start to ensure that you don’t miss out on any of the team tryouts, service events and orientation trips.  While not required of new cadets, it is highly encouraged.

The week begins on Monday, 8 Aug, at 8:00 am in the media center at Governor Thomas Johnson  High School, and is run daily from 8:00 am through 3:45 pm.  (Lunch is not provided, and must be brought by the cadet each day)  New cadets will receive instruction in basic naval knowledge, close  order drill, uniform wear, and physical fitness. They will be introduced to our various  competitive teams and have an opportunity to learn and practice some of the skills involved.  They will also take part in a community service project. The schedule is designed to expose  students to all aspects of our program, while allowing them the opportunity to earn their first  rank advancement, participation and physical fitness ribbons, and log three hours of service  toward their first community service ribbon.

The graduation ceremony will take place in the auditorium at noon on Friday, 12 August.  Parents, family and friends are all welcome to attend. Following graduation, our Booster Club  will host our annual welcome picnic on the patio by the flagpole on the athletic field side of the  school. The picnic is a chance to not only celebrate the accomplishments of our new NCO  graduates, but all returning cadets and families are invited, so it is also an opportunity to meet all  of our cadets and their families.

The fee to attend NCO is $100.00.  This is the same cost as the unit fee for first year NJROTC cadets, and will be applied to that obligation.  Please pay by check, made payable to, “Patriot NJROTC.” on the first day of NCO.   To register, please go to the link below and complete the Google document.  You will receive a confirmation notice, and further details and paperwork as the week approaches.
